Topic: Worship Is… Adoration

Text:  Mark 12:30

Introduction

I.       Over the next couple of weeks we are going to focus on worship and what some of the different elements of worship are.

A.     We will only focus a little of our attention on how we are to worship.

B.     Rather, the direction we are going to go is to look at what we bring to the worship.

C.     Tonight we are going to begin with the idea that worship is adoration.

II.      When you get right to the very core of Worship, this is what you’ll find…worship is adoration.

A.     Worship is first and foremost an expression of our love and adoration to a God who loved us first.

B.     Tonight let’s look at why we should express adoration to God in the first place and some ideas on how we can do that.

Text

I.       Why Should I Express Adoration to God?

A.     Because of the many blessing of God (James 1:17).

1.      What are some things that He has blessed you with?

2.      As hard as life can be sometimes, the blessings of God are evident all around us if we’ll take the time to look.

B.     Because He brings meaning and purpose to life.

1.      But the fact is that our true meaning and purpose in life can only be discovered in the arms of our Creator (Romans 8:28).

2.      Note what God told the Israelites (Jeremiah 29:11).

C.     Because of His extreme love for me.

1.      Extreme enough to give His life for you (Romans 5:6-9).

2.      Often we are impressed when someone loans us something.

II.      How Do I Express Adoration to God?

A.     Put God first in my life.

1.      Whatever you love the most has first priority in your life.

2.      God desires (and deserves) first priority (Mark 12:30).

3.      Putting God first means that you form your values on His word.

B.     Do things that will make Him happy.

1.      If you love somebody, if you adore somebody, you’re going to do things that please them and make them happy.

2.      Jesus said, “If you love Me, keep My commandments.” (John 14:15).

3.      This is about the relationship we have with God.

C.     Express my love freely and frequently.

1.      If you love Jesus, don’t keep it a secret.

2.      You talk about the people you love, don’t you?

Conclusion

I.       Christian, worship the God you adore!

II.      Non-Christian, what do you worship?

A.     Who or what do you adore?

B.     How is that working out for you?

C.     Won’t you return His love, obey His gospel, and allow Him to save you through the washing away of your sins?
