Sermon Outline Nov 4, 2007 Evening ServiceTopic: The Lord Is Your KeeperText: Psalm 121:1-8Introduction
I. Tonight let’s begin by reflecting inwardly for a few moments about our trust in God. A. Where do you turn for help? B. If the Lord is “On Call” all the time, why do I wait until my situation is desperate before calling on His help? II. We would probably all say that we trust God. A. The question then might be, “Do we really trust God? B. When I feel pressure how can I remember that the Lord is there for me? III. The Lord is our vigilant helper and protector. TextI. The Lord is our vigilant helper (vs. 1-4). A. Look for help in the right place: “where does my help come from?”. 1. The impressive grandeur of the mountains reminds me of the majesty of the Creator (“I will lift up my eyes to the hills” (vs. 1)). 2. “My help comes from the Lord”. B. The Lord’s credentials as our helper are impeccable. 1. He is Lord over nature (creator of heaven and earth (“Who made heaven and earth”)). 2. He personally cares for each one of us (“He will not allow your foot to slip”). 3. He is vigilant (“On Call” 24 hours a day (“He who keeps you will not slumber…Behold, He who keeps Israel will neither slumber nor sleep”)). II. The Lord is our vigilant protector (vs. 5-8). A. Look for protection in the right places: “The Lord is your keeper”. B. The Lord’s credentials as protector are impeccable. 1. He is Lord over nature (“The Lord is your shade on your right hand”). a. From the heat of the sun (“The sun will not smite you by day”). b. From the freezing temperatures of the night (“Nor the moon by night”). 2. He personally cares for us (He watches over our soul (“The Lord will protect you from all evil; He will keep your soul”)). 3. He is vigilant (“On Call” 24 hours a day (“The Lord will guard your going out and your coming in from this time forth and forever”)). ConclusionI. Tonight we’ve been reflecting inwardly about our trust in God. A. Where do you turn for help? B. If the Lord is “On Call” all the time, don’t wait until a situation is desperate before calling on His help. II. Do we really trust God? III. The Lord is our vigilant helper and protector. |
