Topic: If They Kill Us We Shall Only Die

Text:  2 Kings 7:3-11

Introduction

I.        Tonight we are going to look at a story that most should be at least somewhat familiar with.

II.       Life is usually a series of cycles and seasons (Ecclesiastes 3:1-8).

A.       Likely these men have had good “seasons” in their lives.

B.       But here they find themselves dealing with a “season” far worse than usual.

III.      Tonight we want to strive to see why God allows these cycles to occur in our lives.

A.       Hopefully this will help you understand why you are driven to a point of desperation before God provides deliverance.

B.       We will also focus on the periods of delight and the practice of duty.

Text

I.        There Was A Point Of Desperation (II Kings 7:3-4).

A.       Israel was facing oppression leading people to do things they had never even thought of.

B.       Does this sound at all familiar to certain situations in your life?

II.       There Was A Provision Of Deliverance (II Kings 7:5-7).

A.       I am not sure these four men made a great decision, but regardless God took care of them.

B.       If we will trust ourselves to God and let Him do the work we will discover that God can do more in a moment than we can in a lifetime!

III.      There Was A Period Of Delight (II Kings 7:8).

A.       These men started plundering their enemies without having to fight for it.

B.       God is able to handle your desperate issues in powerful ways that bring you delight.

IV.      There Was A Practice Of Duty (II Kings 7:9-11).

A.       How tempting must it have been to keep all of this to themselves.

B.       There may be several reasons for God to allow us to reach a point of desperation.

1.       First, He wants to show Himself powerful through our deliverance.

2.       Second, He wants to bless us with delight we might not experience otherwise.

3.       Third, God allows us to reach points of desperation so that when He brings us through we might give Him the glory just like these men did.

Conclusion

I.        Obviously the praise they gave God was altogether appropriate.

II.       But notice the attitude they had (II Kings 7:9).

III.      When everything seems to befall you at once, and periodically it will, don’t forget this:

A.       God knows all of your days before one comes to be.

B.       God always has a plan of deliverance lined up.

C.      Just don’t forget Him and to give Him the glory!
