Topic: David A Soldier Of Faith

Text: 1 Samuel 22:1-5

Introduction

I.        David had proved himself a man of faith.

A.       He had strangled a lion, slain a giant and overcome 200 Philistines.

B.       But as we come upon him here he is overcome by fear.

C.      What are the fears you have to stare down today?

II.       It seems that many are running away from the troubles they face.

III.      David is running and has escaped to a place of safety and seclusion.

A.       He was physically exhausted and needed some rest and quiet.

B.       We all have our prisons.

D.      David’s allowed him to learn to respond to his problems.

Text

I.        God Uses Problems To Direct You.

A.       David was having problems even though he had done nothing amiss.

B.       Later when he does wrong he’ll learn the same lesson.

C.      Sometimes God has to light a fire under you to get you moving.

II.       God Uses Problems To Inspect You.

A.       Has God ever tested your faith with a problem?

B.       What do problems reveal about you?

C.      Most fail to recognize trials for what God intends them to be and thus fail to respond as God would have us to respond (James 1:2-3).

III.      God Uses Problems To Correct You.

A.       Some lessons we learn only through pain and failure.

B.       Sometimes we only learn the value of something when we lose it.

C.      Other time the loss may be the best thing that could happen.

IV.      God Uses Problems To Protect You.

A.       A problem can be a blessing in disguise.

B.       How many situations have you experienced that initially seemed catastrophic but now you can say you are better off because of it?

V.       God Uses Problems To Perfect You.

A.       Problems, when responded to correctly, are character builders.

B.       God is far more interested in your character than your comfort.

Conclusion

I.        Here’s The Point:

A.       God is at work in your life even when you do not recognize it.

B.       But it’s much easier and profitable when you cooperate with Him!

II.       Faint not, you are neither neglected nor forgotten (Philippians 1:6).

III.      Let today be a new day in the Lord for you and your house.

A.       Maybe you are distressed or discontent because of the sins in your life.

B.       Or perhaps you are a part of the family who has seen defeat in your past.

C.      David showed himself capable of killing giants or hiding in a cave:

1.       Is there anyone here today ready to kill some giants?

2.       Is there a soldier in the house?

3.       A soldier in the army of the Lord!
