Topic: How Jesus Made Disciples

Text:    Ecclesiastes 4:12

Introduction

I.        Most people don’t have an awareness that they are at war with God.

II.       Many people today don’t believe in what the Bible has to tell us.

III.      So, Christians have a tough row to hoe.

IV.      We Christians have been given our orders, it’s time we took them seriously.

A.       It is time we stopped being passive in a lost and dying world.

B.       It’s time we lived out the word of God.

C.      Let’s look for some answers this morning.

D.      Jesus told us to make disciples, and then He told us how.

Text

I.        Go.

A.       This is the point many people begin to get scared: “But I don’t want to go to Africa, or China, or South America. I want to stay right here where I’m comfortable.”

B.       Unfortunately many people think of “going” as having to go to Africa.

II.       Baptizing them.

A.       We’re not going to argue or debate baptism here this morning (I don’t think I need to).

B.       The main thing we need to understand here is that baptism is part of making disciples.

C.      Baptism is when someone first becomes a Christian and a disciple of Jesus.

D.      That’s why the next part of seriously making disciples is so important.

III.      Teaching Them to Obey.

A.       What is it that we are to teach them?

B.       We are to teach them the word of God.

Conclusion

I.        So, that’s the cycle of making disciples.

A.       A Christian shares with someone else their life and words about Jesus and the salvation offered through Him.

B.       As he comes to trust and obey, he repeats the process.

II.       Where are you in the process today?

A.       We all fall in there somewhere.

B.       Sadly, some of us fail and we stop the cycle of discipleship.

III.      So leave here today and live out the word of God!

A.       Take up the process of discipleship where you may have left off days, months, or years ago.

B.       Let’s get serious again about our Christian duty to make disciples.
