Topic: Four Expectations Of Worship

Text:        Isaiah 6:1-8

Introduction

I.         For most of us, Sunday isn’t like other days.

II.        One of my greatest hopes is that collectively we garner a real understanding about worship.

III.       Even so, when we come to worship God, we should expect to receive something in return.

Text

I.         When we come to worship God, we can expect a sense of God’s presence (Isaiah 6:1-4)

A.        One of the goals of worship is to connect people with God.

B.        Isaiah shares his experience in the presence of God (Isaiah 6:1).

C.       Jesus invites us into His presence (Matthew 18:20).

II.        When we come to worship God, we can expect a conviction of our own sinfulness (Isaiah 6:5).

A.        Look at what Isaiah says about himself when he was in the presence of God (Isaiah 6:5).

B.        We do not know what kind of person Isaiah was before this.

C.       When you are in the presence of God, you cannot help but see where you really are and why you really need Him.

D.       When people would come to Jesus, they were moved with conviction of their own sinfulness.

III.      When we come to worship God, we can expect a joyful reminder of God’s grace (Isaiah 6:6-7).

A.        The goal of worship is not for us to feel terrible about who we are.

B.        The goal of worship is to help remind us of the grace, love, and forgiveness God offers us in spite of that honest conviction.

C.       When we gather together for worship, we should also receive a cleansing of sin and a release from guilt (Isaiah 6:6-7).

D.       Realizing how sinful we are does not mean we are without hope.

IV.      When we come to worship God, we can expect the inspiration to serve (Isaiah 6:8)

A.        True worship will inspire us to want to serve our awesome God to the best of our ability because of who He is!

B.        Here is Isaiah (Isaiah 6:8).

C.       Church, hear this and hear it well: when a redeemed sinner found out God had a job that needed to be done God did not have to beg for someone to do it.

D.       This congregation possesses everything necessary to do our Lord’s bidding.

Conclusion

I.         Each week we should leave this place a different person.

A.        Come to worship ready and expecting to be in the presence of God.

B.        And remember that whenever we are in the presence of God, we should never be the same.

II.        When you come to worship, bring your sacrifice with you, the life that you have given to Jesus.

III.       Come and enjoy the fullness of God in your life with other Christians.
